The short term coaching plans are perfect for those who would like assistance in preparing for one or more target events but do not wish for the long term commitment of taking on a coach. After filling out a detailed questionnaire, I will work with you to design a plan that is fully tailored to your specific individual needs, fits in with your available training time and is flexible around your existing commitments. The coaching plans are provided with your personalised training zones and full details of each training session; any questions you have about the plans will be fully explained and answered. For each 4 week block of training, you are credited with an e-mail thread to discuss any aspect of training. As you near the completion of your training plan, extensions can be purchased at £25 for each extra 4 week block.
The long term coaching plans are perfect for those who would like the on-going assistance of a coach to improve their cycling. The long term coaching plans are designed with regular feedback and monitoring so that the plan can continually evolve as your needs change and you progress. After filling out a detailed questionnaire, I will work with you to design a plan that is fully tailored to your specific individual needs, fits in with your available training time and is flexible around your existing commitments. The coaching plans will be delivered to you in blocks that typically last between two and six weeks (depending on the phase of training). Each training session will be fully detailed along with your personalised training zones and any questions you have about the plans will be fully explained and answered. Once completed, each weeks' training is returned for feedback and analysis.
The long term coaching plans are named for the type of event typically raced; reflecting the support and involvement most often needed for success at that level. The more expensive plans offer more detailed analysis, feedback and support. These are not hard and fast rules and it is perfectly acceptable to take a package aimed at a higher or lower level of support depending on your needs.
I started time-trialling in 2014 (aged 49) and recorded a long 20 and a long 53 for 10 and 25 respectively. My training method was to simply go out and ride hard for 30 miles two or three times a week! 2015 was disappointing - I did set PBs for some courses but generally did not progress. I had spoken with Dan once before and he had provided some feedback and encouragement. I started with Dan in August 2015 with the Open package. For the remainder of the season he provided weekly training schedules, advice re race tactics and reviewed my race performance etc. Once the season finished he provided monthly training schedules and weekly feedback on my sessions. Over this 5-month period my average power for a 10 has increased from 310 to 350 - from less than 7 hours of training per week. He has also provided helpful advice re aerodynamic position, diet and equipment. If you are serious about improving your times and maximising your potential, then I would confidently recommend Dan as a coach.
I have really enjoyed working with Dan, his training plans are varied, interesting, progressive and tailored to my time trial specific racing focus, and he is flexible in his approach (for example when I was injured or when I was struggling to complete some interval sessions). Dan is patient and thorough when responding to questions and clearly has an excellent understanding of the training and physiological principles which underpin endurance training. I would therefore definitely recommend Dan to others.
I took up cycling in May 2014 & knew straight away that I wanted to take it seriously. I was then recommended by a friend to get in contact with Daniel. I started training with Dan in January 2015. He provided me with detailed weekly training plans to complete & then I would receive feedback on my performances. He has also given me advice on race tactics & nutrition. Dan is very knowledgeable & uses great training techniques. I went from a Novice Cat 4 rider to a Cat 2 rider in 2015 & without Dan that simply wouldn't have happened, his training has been fantastic! I would highly recommend Dan as a coach to anyone.
In May 2014 Dan offered to provide me with coaching and I was very keen to go ahead. I soon decided to do my first open time trials and set new PB's for both 10 and 25 miles, as well as competing in my first 50 and 100 mile time trials. By the end of the season I had won 3 club cups and was placed second for another 4 cups. During the winter of 2014/15, I started a programme of structured winter training with Dan. This was divided into blocks with regular testing at the end of each block to ensure that the training was beneficial. In 2015, I improved my PB's for 10, 25, 50 and 100 mile time trials, with significant improvements in the 25, 50 and 100 mile discipline. At the end of the season I had won two different club cups, claiming second and third place in a further 4 cup events. I can honestly say that this would not have been possible without Dan's help. I have no hesitation in recommending Dan to anyone who is looking for a coach.
I started racing club time trials in 2009 on my road bike and was hooked instantly. But I wanted to go faster. I read the Cyclist's Training Bible by Joe Friel and began to train consistently and with structure. I had my first club and open event wins two years later in 2011 but I wanted to go even faster. I read more and more and then took my coaching qualification with the ABCC. My results continued to improve but I wanted to go faster still. I continued to read and explore the scientific literature, looking for the training methods that will get me fitter and faster. I have spent hours doing aerodynamic testing to reduce my drag to go faster still. The hard work paid off. I have three National Team Time Trial titles (100 miles in 2014 with Scott Davidson and Geoff Frost; 50 miles in 2015 with Matt Smith and Jason Bouttell and the BBAR in 2016 with Dave Green and Ben Keeley). I broke the 30 mile Team Time Trial competition record with Matt Smith and Dave Green and the 12-hour Team Time Trial competition record with Dave Green and Ben Keeley. I have won the SpoCo East competition four times, I have won dozens of District titles as well as over 70 individual race wins. I continue to explore new training techniques and methods with the aim of capturing further success at both regional and national level. These discoveries and experiences feed directly into my coaching so that you can also benefit from this insight.
